A POLITICAL GLADIATOR BISHOP ANTHONY OKOSUN JOINS THE RANKS: DEFECTS TO APC IN EDO STATE, UNITING OKPEBHOLO'S FOUNDATION

UROMI, ESAN NORTH EAST– The political atmosphere in Edo Central took a new turn recently as one of its most vocal grassroots mobilizers, Bishop Dr. Anthony Okosun, formally defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) the ruling party in Edo State, Nigeria.
The declaration was made at Ward 11, Idumhonza, Uromi, during a well-attended gathering of party leaders, women groups, youths, and political associates from across Esan North-East and neighboring communities.
For many, the timing is significant. It comes just as the Edo State House of Assembly prepares for a public  hearing on key developmental bills, a process expected to shape policy direction across the Senatorial Districts.
WHY THE MOVE?
Addressing the crowd, Bishop Okosun said his decision was deliberate and people-driven.
“I am joining the APC to contribute to the development of my community, Esanland, and Edo State. We need unity, progress, and leadership that delivers,” he said.
He commended the developmental strides already being championed by Senator Monday Okpebholo, Executive Governor of Edo State, and Rt. Hon.( Mrs)  Maria Omozele  Oligbi -Edeko, member representing Esan North East Constituency 11, in the Edo State House of Assembly, noting that their first-term records provided a foundation worth building on.
WHAT IT MEANS FOR APC
Party leaders who received Bishop Okosun described the defection as “a major political gain” for Ward 11 and Esan North East. They assured him of equal opportunity and pledged to work with him to deepen the APC’s grassroots structure ahead of future elections.
A political leader during the exercise says defections by influential figures like Bishop Okosun often shift local alignments and energize party structures at the wards level across the Esan North East Constituecy.
The APC is consolidating, bringing in a grassroots gladiator ahead of legislative engagements like this public hearing signals readiness to mobilize support for government policies that will tranform Edo State and Uromi, Esan North East Local Government in particular.
As the governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo our son in Edo Central Senatorial district prepares to  deliver 2.5 million votes to President Almed Tinubu second term, Bishop Anthony Okosun into the APC is expected to boost party cohesion, increase voters mobilization, and strengthen support for the Okpebholo administration’s agenda in Idumhonza and surrounding communities.
With the election drawing closer, all eyes are now on how this new political alignment will influence grassroots participation and policy advocacy in Esan North East, Uromi Edo State Nigeria.

A new wave of spiritual and political alignment is sweeping across Esan Land as religious leaders and grassroots mobilizers rally behind His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, popularly called “Akpakomuza”.
The movement gained momentum through three major developments in the last two months: special prayers by Esan bishops, grassroots campaign in Uromi wards, and a high-profile defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC)
SPIRITUAL BACKING AKPAKOMIZA: “UZOYA OF ESAN LAND”
Esan United College of Archbishops, Bishops and Ministries held a high-level meeting in Uromi under President General, Bishop Dr. Anthony Okosun
They credited the unity of Esan spiritual leadership for championing the “Esan Agenda” which produced two Esan governorship candidates. With Senator Okpebholo now governor, the bishops called on all Esan sons and daughters to unite for peace and development.

In special prayers led by Bishop Anthony Okosun and Bishop Solomon Oriaifoh, the College prayed for the governor’s:
wsdom, good health, and long life, Justice, humility, and the fear of God
Success to “finish strong without disgrace”Bishop G. Aneni added: We must return to fervent prayer for our nation and for those in authority.”
The meeting ended with the declaration: "Aigbona Edo, Okpai Makhi."
GRASSROOTS MOBILIZATION: WARD 4 AND THE CLERGY
The spiritual charge moved to the streets on July 25, 2026, when Archbishop Dr. Anthony Okosun took the campaign to Ward 4, Uromi alongside Barr. Ikhinobele, who defected to APC in Uromi, recently also joined Bishop Okosun to boost the political movement to ensure that Uromi  wards delivered the governor Okpebholo renewed hope agenda for president Ahmed Bola Tinubu second term.
Bishop Dr  Okosun urged residents to vote massively for their own son” to support Senator Monday Okpebholo's  2.5 million votes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his second-term ambition. That will bring more developments to Edo State through Akpakomiza. The crowd received the message with excitement.
From the altar to the ward, and now inside the party structure, the message from Esan Land is unified: prayers, politics, and people are aligning behind Akpakomuza.
As Edo State prepares for critical governance decisions, Esan bishops and leaders say they are ready to serve as a bridge for peace, progress, and consolidation between government and the people.
