Esan North-East Holds Thanksgiving Service For Obaseki's Victory

The Peoples Democratic party (PDP) members in Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State were on Sunday at the St. Anthony Catholic Cathedral, Uromi, to thank God for their victory at the September 19, 2020 Governorship election in Edo State.
The PDP members who were led on the Thanksgiving by the former minister of works, Arc. Mike Onolemenmen danced to the altar in great joy to receive prayers from the Bishop of Uromi Catholic Diocese, Bishop Donatus Ogun.
The former minister, Arc. Mike Onolemenmen said the party was thanking God because it realised that the hand of God was in the victory of Governor Godwin Obaseki and Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu.
"We came to the Cathedral of St. Anthony to thank God because we saw the hand of God in the victory of Governor Godwin Obaseki and Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu", he said.
He commended the party members for working very hard to earn the victory, urging them not to rest on their oars, as it was not yet Uhuru.
He implored all party members to have their hands on deck to ensure that the second term of Godwin Obaseki turned out better than the first tenure.
The Esan North East Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Austine Okoibhole who was represented by the Secretary to Esan North East Local Government, Barr. Vincent Okoh said they were thanking God because He made the victory possible.
He said the victory was particularly sweet because, in spite of the money allegedly shared to voters on election day by opposition party, God still made heart of the voters to favour PDP.
He said the victory of PDP at the poll sparked off jubilation in the entire state and other parts of the country, and even in Europe, America and some other parts of the world.
In his homily, the Bishop of Uromi Catholic Diocese praised members of the political parties for ensuring non violence election, adding that with the feat, the country had overcome the difficult phase of her elections.
He urged the PDP to use the opportunity provided them again after 12 years in opposition in the state, to correct the errors of the past.
The catholic bishop congratulated the electorate that refused to be bribed, and said those who collect bribe to vote did not deserve to be congratulated.
He urged Christians to be involved in politics, pointing out that though politics is assumed to be a dirty game, Christians needed to be involved to be able to clean up the political system.
The religious leader admonished political leaders to fulfill their promises to the electorate, noting that it in so doing that political system could be enhanced.
