WRONG PARKING : TRAILER DRIVERS CHAIRMAN LAUD WIKE OVER BAN.

The chairman of the South-South/South-East trailer drivers' unit of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Comrade Umar Mohammed Giwa, has lauded Governor Nyesom Wike over the ban on illegal parking of trailers and trucks along highways in the state.
The chairman noted that the governor's action was an appropriate response to the parking of trailers and trucks along major highways within and across the state, a situation that breeds hoodlums and prostitutes, and reduces the cleaning capacity of the  River State Environmental Sanitation Authority.

He disclosed that after the state government's pronouncement, he organized a meeting with trailer drivers across the South-South and South-East at the headquarters at Eleme Trailer Park, River State, in regards to the governor's directives.
He also advised union members to obey the order from the government of Rivers State, stressing that no unions across the country can disrespect the directive of government.

Umar said the trailer drivers he leads are ready to join forces with the government and the transport ministry of River State to ensure a good relationship with the Governor Wike's administration, adding that since he assumed office as the chairman,  South-South/South-East,  National Union of Road Transport Workers at Eleme Trailer Park, River State, the union has never had any misunderstanding with the state government.

He vowed to maintain the cordial relationship already existing between the drivers and the state government, and directed the trailer drivers to follow the agreement reached in the meeting in respect of the directives of government.

Furthermore, the chairman pleaded with the governor and the transport ministry to also consider the plight of trailer drivers, saying that trailers often spoil on their way back from delivery and it would often take more than 24 hours to fix such broken down trailer or truck.
It would be recalled that the Rivers State governor, Barr Wike, recently gave a directive to local government authorities across the state and the ministry of transport to ensure the evacuation of all illegally parked trailers and trucks within their jurisdiction.

"However, for such incident report, we the union are, appealing to government to listen to our plight and give us the opportunity and time beyond 24 hours for the companies or private trailer owners to make repairs and meet up with the demand", he implored.
